Ophthalmology – Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine which deals with the diseases and surgery of the visual pathways such as the eye. Eyes are organs that detect light, and send electrical impulses along the optic nerve to the visual and other areas of the brain. The eye consists of five main parts: Cornea, Iris, Lens, Retina and Optic nerve. Cornea is the clear covering over the eye. Iris is the colored opening in the eye responsible for adjusting the amount of light entering the eye. The lens is a converging lens so that it can create a real image on the back wall of the eye. Retina is the projection screen at the back of the eye. The optic nerve is responsible for carrying the signal from the retina to the brain.
