Nervous System – The nervous system is a network of specialized cells that transfer information outside the body as well as information within the body. It is composed of neurons and other specialized cells called glial cells (plural form glia) that aid in the function of the neurons. The nervous system is divided broadly into two categories: the peripheral nervous system and the central nervous system. The central nervous system is the largest part of the nervous system, and includes the brain and spinal cord. The cells that do not fall within the central nervous system form the peripheral nervous system. The bodies of these cells lie within the central nervous system and the longer processes of the cells, known as axons extend in the limbs of the torso. This category contains 3D medical illustrations of the brain, the spinal cord as well as the whole nervous system.
